Sofitel @ LHR

Friday, May 16th, 2014

Arrived at LHR by tube and soon found the signs to the hotel. Quite a long walk but all under cover to the hotel itself. Quite a queue at reception but all desks were staffed and I was soon checked in. Wasn’t give much information, e.g. about the internet, breakfast or asked about newspapers, wake up,call etc.. Had to ask about lounge access and my key card had to be replaced with one to give me access. However, access worked, despite not having booked on the hotel’s own website as suggested by some on this forum.

Was upgraded to a superior room which was a good size but as I have never stayed here before I am not sure what the superior room has that a standard doesn’t.

Lounge decent enough although the food wasn’t my cup of tea. Three choices of both red and white wine. After a comfortable night’s sleep checked out and headed for the airport.

Getting ready for stage 1 of the trip to Chicago

Monday, September 17th, 2012

The day before we start our trip to Chicago, BA write to us to advise that due to “operational reasons” our flight from LGW to AMS will be operated by Titan Airways, with no business class so we are now flying from LHR. So, the route now is:

Malaga Airport

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

The airport is very close to Torremolinos so unless unavoidable get the train (less than €2 each) as taxis charge a minimum of €19 to/from airport. Airport is spacious and security usually quick. Lounge (Priority Pass as well as BA) is on the upper floor and is large and airy with a good range of nibbles (toast, jams, biscuits, sandwiches etc).

Hilton @ LGW

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

Although our flight on Sunday wasn’t particularly early we decided to spend the previous night at the Hilton at LGW. Upgraded to an executive lounge we went shopping for some food in the airport and then hit the lounge for the Saturday evening free drinks. The lounge at this hotel is not particularly impressive, nor is its range of nibbles. Although we had an executive room we didn’t get bathrobes which is unusual.
